NTUC advises to insure early to avoid exclusions
Customer wrote that NTUC Income rejected his sister's application to upgrade her IncomeShield plan even though no abnormalities were found during a routine check-up ("Insurer rejects medical shield plan upgrade"; last Saturday).
NTUC response: We upgraded Madam Ang's IncomeShield plan with special terms that were based on her medical history and health declaration.
We are in contact with Madam Ang to obtain the medical records required for a review of those terms.
We remind customers to insure themselves early and when in good health, to avoid exclusions because of pre-existing conditions.
Once a condition is diagnosed or detected, it may become uninsurable because the likelihood of claims arising from it becomes much higher or even a certainty.
If insurers admit such cases to the pool, it would mean higher premiums for all.
We seek to protect the broader interests of all our policyholders and make insurance accessible and affordable to the average Singaporean.
