Insurance woes for couple who lost son

SINGAPORE - Even as an informal group of Singaporeans living in Melbourne rallies behind the family involved in a road accident there last month, the family is facing some frustration with its travel insurance claims, the group highlighted yesterday.

In a statement to the media, the group - which calls itself Melbourne SG Kampong - said ACE Insurance had been contacted by several parties but no solution had been reached.

It said the couple, Mr Fauzi Aman and Madam Zuleeza Suri, are "now faced with a strong possibility of financial hardship" and are left to face "the basic question of how to survive".

In an email response, ACE Insurance Asia-Pacific's Vice-President and Head of Communications Michele Minjoot said: "We acknowledge the challenging time the family has been experiencing and are sorry for their loss. We have been actively trying to contact the family after the accident but were told to give them some space while they grieved. We have not denied any requests of the family and are eager to render all possible assistance to cover their claim and help them in their time of need."
